The Swan presents himself

The Swan Lake: Moving Image & Music Awards, short SL:MIMA, is an international and exclusively organized short film competition by students of the University of Applied Science Mittweida.
Every film will be created on the basis of a modern piece of piano music, which will be chosen out of a pool of contemporary music played by piano. 
Co-operation partner for this purpose is a worldwide network of free pianists - newagepiano.net.

The categories

Animated film:

To let sights disappear, let elephants do mischief in a china shop or create a new world.
Animate what your computing machine and first of all your creativity admits.

Digital film:

Permitted is everything that you make of it. A good idea with the music of New Age Piano produces the contribution for this category.

Interactive film:

Whether left, right or right through the middle of life. Wherever it goes will not be decided by you, but your audience.

Judging criteria

Music videos will be judged based on the following criteria worth 10 marks each:

• Originality, creativity and innovation:
  Originality of the approach demonstrating innovation and creativity.
  
• Aesthetic quality:
  This involves the overall quality of the mood and atmosphere created in the visual and auditory world of the video, immersing the audience.
  
• The integration and suitability of the video to the chosen music track.
  
• Technical quality:
  Technical quality in creating special effects as well as quality of the editing (cutting, fading and pacing of the images to the music).
  
• Storytelling and artistic vision:
  How well does the creator execute their statement of artistic vision/intention and how bold is it? This involves the visceral impact it has on the audience, good or bad.
  
• Judges' Impression:
  This is the most subjective of the criteria - how well the judges like the video.
  
• Use of interactivity:
  Relevant for the 'Interactive Movie" category only. The use of interactivity includes aspects of non-linear narrative the possibility to modify and control the represented video imagery, creative and effective methods to engage and create an emotional impact on the user through interaction.

Prizes

In co-operation with the online platform startnext.de the winner will get the start-up financing for their follow-up project.  In addition to that startnext.de enables the long- range development of your skills.
Besides these fantastic possibilities are numerous non-cash prizes, workshops and get2gether with experts of the branch at disposal of the participants.
