Christian Hein from Germany was the 1st winner of SL:MIMA 2006 in the category "Animation". His Video "The Leaf" (Das Blatt) with piano music by Rebecca Kragnes impressed the international jury with its technical but at the same time very poetical aesthetics. Christian was able to interpret the music by using simple but very effective and expressive ways of digital narration, which gave trivial objects a very special meaning.

Henry Schmieder the 23-year-old media technology student from Marienberg, Germany, is the winner of the first Swan Lake Award. The prize giving ceremony was held on Wednesday evening, 16th June 2004, at the University of Applied Sciences, Mittweida, Germany. Henry’s animated clip "Circus", won recognition and the top prize from the panel of international jurors.
Inspired by the painter Salvador Dalí, Schmieder has brought the works of Spanish artist to life by setting it to music of Marcus Schmahl. The 6-minute video took more than ten weeks of computer work. The winner, upon hearing the verdict of the jury, appeared surprised that he came first against a very strong competition. "Before the announcement my heart was pounding", says Schmieder, who currently works on his diploma.
The first prize, Studiophile LX4 Speaker System, was sponsored by M-AUDIO.
JURY STATEMENT [
Rodica Mocan]:
"....it takes surrealism from the static, bi-dimension, to a dynamic, changing, challenging, exploratory experience. The storytelling is consistent with the media of expression, surrealistic, postmodern. It uses techniques seen before, but filled with original content."
